Mariinsky Theatre Second Stage Building

The Second Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre (Mariinka-2) is a modern building constructed in 2013 based on a project by the Canadian bureau Diamond Schmitt Architects and the St. Petersburg-based OJSC 'KB ViPS'. It is located next to the main stage and combines modern design with classical elements. The facade is clad in light German 'JURA Marmor' limestone, and glass stained-glass windows add lightness.

Inside there are spacious foyers with panoramic windows, limestone and golden onyx. The main hall with 2000 seats is equipped with a transformable stage and ideal acoustics; there is also a chamber hall with 200 seats. The building is connected by a bridge over the Kryukov Canal with the historical stage and is part of the theatre cluster together than the New Stage of the Conservatory.

Our employees participated in the engineering of the project. Translucent structures with an area of 6,500 m² were developed and installed, including entrance groups with canopies, skylights and decorative stained-glass windows. Special attention was paid to ventilated facades: 7,500 m² are clad with German 'JURA Marmor' limestone, and 5,500 m² with RHEINZINK titanium-zinc panels. The interiors were decorated with 3,000 m² of natural stone. Translucent structures with 'cold warped glass' technology (Cold Warped Glazing) and structures manufactured in Germany at the Josef Gartner plant were used.
